Founded in 1956 by K.J. “Smokey” Miller, Safety Boss has grown from a one-truck fire company into a fleet of safety, loss prevention, and emergency response equipment operated and managed by the industry’s leading team of safety professionals.
In 1979 Mike Miller, son of the company’s founder, became the CEO and Safety Boss followed a new direction based on Mike’s vision. Originally rooted deep in Alberta’s oil patch, Mike expanded the company internationally in the early 1980s by forging our world-renowned well control reputation. To date, we have successfully controlled more than 800 emergency events, including several of the largest blowouts and firefighting projects in the world.
When Mike retired in November 2023, he sold his controlling shares of the company to key long-term employees who now continue to lead the company with the same vision, mission, and values that he worked so many years to establish. Partnering with Kissell Capital, Safety Boss’ growth strategies are secured for a solid future. Mike remains a shareholder and continues to support the team in a consulting capacity, with a primary focus on well control.
Moving forward, we continue to diversify by providing comprehensive prevention, detection and response safety services to the Oil and Gas, Construction, Forestry, Mining and Processing industries worldwide. Striving to improve ourselves and the equipment offered is how we will accomplish our goal of operational excellence for our partners in the industry.
